Education:
My educational background includes specialized training in public policy, economics, taxation, and leadership. It reflects a commitment to continuous learning and professional development, equipping me with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills necessary to excel in tax policy, revenue administration, and public finance.
In 2022, I completed a Master of Public Policy (MPP) from the Australian National University (ANU), one of the world’s leading institutions for public policy education. Funded by the prestigious Australia Awards Scholarship from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), this program provided me with advanced training in managing government finances, international policymaking, and economic analysis. Key courses included Managing Government Finances, International Policymaking in the Shadow of Globalization, Economics for Government, and Public Sector Management. These honed my ability to analyze complex policy issues, design evidence-based solutions, and navigate the political and institutional challenges of public policy implementation. My studies also emphasized global trading systems, policy research, and public sector ethics, further enhancing my capacity to contribute to high-level policy dialogues and reforms.
Prior to my MPP, I earned a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Taxation Management from the Institute of Business Administration (IBA), Pakistan, in 2008. This program equipped me with a strong understanding of financial accounting, public economics, international trade, and tax management. Courses such as Financial Management, Change Management & Business Process Reengineering (BPR), and Analysis of Financial Statements provided me with the tools to analyze financial systems, implement tax reforms, and manage organizational change. My MBA education laid the groundwork for my expertise in tax administration and revenue mobilization.
I also hold a Master of Science (MSc) in Economics from Government College University, Pakistan, completed in 2005. My studies focused on international economics, applied econometrics, development economics, and monetary and fiscal policy. Courses such as Project Appraisal & Leading Planning Issues and History of Economic Thought deepened my understanding of economic theory and its application to real-world challenges. This academic background has been instrumental in my ability to design and implement revenue strategies tailored to the economic contexts of developing countries.
In addition to formal degrees, I have extensive professional training to enhance technical and leadership skills. In 2019, I attended a Policy Skills & Leadership Workshop at the Centre for Economic Research & Policy (CERP), Pakistan, to develop hard and soft skills, including leadership, communication, and team building. I also completed a Building Capacity to Use Research and Evidence Workshop by Harvard Kennedy School, delivered by CERP, focusing on using evidence-based approaches, such as cost-benefit analysis and impact evaluations, to inform policy decisions.
Other trainings includes a Transfer Pricing course at the OECD Multilateral Tax Centre in Turkey (2017), where I studied case studies and theories to combat Base Erosion and Profit Shifting (BEPS). Also trained as an assessor for the Exchange of Information on Request (EOIR) Standards by the OECD Global Forum in Romania (2017), solidifying expertise in international tax compliance and transparency.
Earlier in my career, I completed the Common Training Programme and Specialized Training Programme at the Civil Services Academy and Directorate General of Training and Research, Pakistan, respectively. These programs developed competencies in tax law, enforcement, compliance, auditing, and revenue mobilization strategies,.
My educational and professional background show-cases ability to bridge theory and practice in the fields of tax policy, public finance, and economic development.
